This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the updated 2022 Toyota RAV4 hybrid versus the 2023 all-new Kia Sportage Hybrid. Both of these new compact crossover hybrids have some of the best fuel economy. These two models are very popular and not so easy to get these days. The Kia Sportage Hybrid is bigger than the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, it has a little more front row legroom but an extra 3.5” of rear seat legroom. The Sportage wins in cargo capacity with an extra 4.3 cubic feet or 122 litres more overall space. The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has a A 2.5L 4-cylinder matched to an ECVT with Toyota’s hybrid synergy drive; it produces 219 combined horsepower with standard AWD. The Kia Sportage Hybrid has a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission, 227 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada, but FWD and AWD options are available in the US. Fuel economy is very good, but the RAV4 does better at 5.8L/100km, 41 MPG city and 6.3L/100km, 38 MPG highway. Both the RAV4 and Sportage have very different exterior designs, the Sportage more modern and futuristic with 8.3” of ground clearance, the RAV4 rugged with 8.1” of ground clearance.
The Toyota RAV4 offers a practical and versatile interior, the Sportage offers a much more modern design with the available 12.3” touchscreen and digital driver display, standard 8” touchscreen. The RAV4 has a standard 7” touchscreen, available 8” and 9” touchscreen but there are changes coming for 2023 which will make the RAV4 more competitive. It will be getting Toyota’s new multi-media system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity and a standard 8” touchscreen, available 10.5” touchscreen and 12.3” multi-information display The Toyota has more trims to choose from giving you more options for all different budgets.
