Your 'FREE WILL,' or the ability to choose for yourself, may not actually be in your hands. However, scientists don't make claims without evidence. So, what proof are they using to support such significant assertions?
Recently, some experiments revealed a mind-boggling discovery (Link; Soon et al. 2008). Whenever we consciously make a decision—like the example I gave about picking up a mobile phone—the very first thought that comes to our mind about that action occurs at least half a second after our brain has already made the decision for us. In simpler terms, when you consciously make a decision, your brain has already subconsciously made that decision anywhere from half a second to five seconds beforehand. The sense of free will you experience, as if you are choosing between 100 options, is merely a formality. Now, the question arises, if we are not controlling our own brains, then at a fundamental level, who is in charge of the electrical activity happening in our minds?
