I drilled a hole in a mostly empty BIC to prove it was empty. Then showed you how to remove the 2 guards. Next, with the sharpened spine of my Mora Companion I scraped Fatwood from a Pine knot. Some of those scrapings went on top of the tinder and others I balled up and placed under the striker wheel. With only 11 rolls across the table the Fatwood ignited to flames. I quickly deposited the fire ball (so close to my finger) into the waiting Pine Needles tinder bundle within the hobo stove and the inferno took off.
Another way to empty BIC ignite fatwood is to leave the big guard on, stick fatwood down in it, strike it off, then transfer that tiny flame to fatwood scrapings within your tinder bundle.
