Residential solar power is gaining popularity across the US, and hybrid systems are now the fastest growing type of solar panel system.

Hybrid systems not only reduce reliance on the utility, they can provide backup power when the grid is down. They can help homeowners take advantage of the tiered pricing under Time of Use (TOU) electricity rates. There are also significant rebates and incentives in some states, such as California, that reduce the costs of buying battery storage.

Most hybrid systems installed these days make use of advanced AC-coupled lithium batteries such as the Tesla Powerwall of sonnen Eco. You can also convert an existing grid-tied solar system into a hybrid system by retrofitting it with one of these batteries.
