How to release fish safely
Releasing trout properly is crucial for their survival and the health of the fish population. Here's how to do it:

1. Handle with Care: When handling a trout, make sure your hands are wet to avoid removing its protective slime layer, which helps prevent infections. Hold the trout gently and avoid squeezing or putting unnecessary pressure on its body.

2. Keep it in the Water: Whenever possible, release the trout while it's still in the water. This minimizes stress and reduces the risk of injury. If you need to handle the fish outside of the water, do so quickly and ensure your hands are wet.

3. Remove the Hook: If the trout swallowed the hook, try to remove it as carefully as possible using long-nose pliers or a hook remover. If the hook is deeply embedded, it's often better to cut the line as close to the hook as you can and release the fish with the hook still in place. The hook will usually dissolve over time without causing significant harm.

4. Revive the Trout: If the trout appears exhausted after the fight, hold it gently facing upstream in the water, allowing water to flow over its gills. This helps oxygenate the fish and aids in its recovery. You'll know the trout is ready to swim off when it starts to swim actively on its own.

5. Swim Away: Release the trout gently and watch it swim away on its own. If needed, give it some support until it's strong enough to swim away on its own.

Follow Regulations: Always follow local fishing regulations regarding catch limits, size restrictions, and any special rules for catch-and-release fishing.
