In this episode, we look at how expensive life is in Cuba, Havana. Based on numbers and statistics from Havana. Cuba is one of the most difficult videos we made. Mainly because Cuba has a slightly different economy than the rest of the world and prices vary from day to day. Legal rules change quickly and regularly. The prices quoted by Cost of Living are mainly collected by tourists and some locals, so prices can differ greatly from what you will find in Cuba, but also because they are based on averages. The CUP (or Cuban Peso) can also vary greatly in value. Officially the value of the Cuban peso is stated at 24 CUP per dollar, while the Cuban banks (also officially) pay you about 120 Cuban pesos per dollar, while residents (although not completely legal) offer up to 280 Cuban pesos per $1. So, also depending on the price you paid for the local currency, the prices can differ greatly. At the end of the video, we also tell you how far $1000 will get you.

Cost of Living, traveled to Cuba at the end of 2023 and what we paid for some products was a lot more than the average prices stated in this video. A bottle of off-brand Coke cost up to $6 and water cost more than $8 per gallon (a bit over 3 liters) at touristic sites. The prices will also vary greatly depending on the region you stay in and whether they will treat you like a rich tourist or, as the locals say, Gringo.

We take a look at rental prices, public transport, utilities, fashion and entertainment and give you a brief description of the infrastructure, statistics and the economic situation of the country, all in one compact video.
