The American Express Hilton Honors credit card is a no annual fee credit card but can still provide solid value for some people.

For example, the sign up bonus right now is 100,000 Hilton points after you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months of opening your account. This is a low minimum spend requirement even though the bonus itself is decent. Additionally as of right now until 7/6/2022 (unless it is changed) there is a second part to that sign up bonus. You will receive $100 statement credit on eligible Hilton purchases. You have 12 months from the card opening date to use this credit via booking a stay at a Hilton property.

As far as reward categories go, the Hilton Honors card has the following bonus multipliers:
- 7x at Hilton properties
- 5x at U.S. Restaurants
- 5x at U.S. Grocery Stores
- 5x at U.S. Gas Stations
- 3x on Everything Else

These are high multiplier bonuses, so you can rack up Hilton points fast. BUT Hilton points are not as valuable as generic credit card points such as Chase and Amex points. On average, Hilton points are worth 0.5 cents per point. This is far lower than the 2 cent per point valuation of Amex and Chase points and even lower than the standard 1 cent per point valuation. Additionally, you have little to no flexibility when it comes to redemption options with the Hilton points.

Despite these shortcomings, you still have additional benefits such as no foreign transaction fees and complimentary Hilton Silver elite status. Hilton's silver status isn't special but you get things such as
- 20% more bonus points at Hilton
- Free bottled water
- Elite rollover nights
- 5th night free.

The 5th night free is clutch because if you stay for 4 consecutive nights, you get the 5th night free. This perk could save you a couple hundred dollars. The elite rollover nights are cool too because at the end of the year starting at Silver tier or above, any qualifying nights in excess of those required to qualify for elite status level are counted toward a Member’s elite status qualification for the following calendar year (Jan. 1 – Dec. 31).

So is the Amex Hilton Honors card worth it? If you are looking to get into the hotel credit card game without paying an annual fee, and like staying at Hilton, then this card is good for you. Also if you already have Hilton cards and want more points from a sign up bonus, then this can also be an option.

On the other hand, if you don't like Hilton or you want a card with more hotel status, benefits and perks, you should not get this card first.
