NIWA freshwater scientists have recently finished a three month project for the Tasman District Council monitoring the ultra-clear water of the Te Waikoropupū Springs, near Takaka.
This has confirmed the visual clarity is, at times, just short of the theoretical maximum for pure water.
Swimming is banned in the springs but this Go-Pro video, shot during the monitoring project, gives you a rare chance to get underwater and see what “good viz” is really like.
