Staying true to your origins while embracing all sorts of new possibilities is an ongoing artist conundrum. That’s why we were so tickled to find a Judeline quote about sustaining “Andelusian weight” to her recent cover of Shakira’s “La Tortura.” The Spanish singer boasts a sense of pride regarding her roots. As recent triumphs such as “2+1” and “CANIJO” stack up, the 20-year-old Cadiz native shows the competition how to incorporate a healthy respect for tradition while keeping things quite pop, quite catchy, quite modern. Just ask Rosalía. The superstar shared one of Judeline’s tracks early on, a co-sign that deeply enhanced the young singer’s profile. But Judeline is rightly wary of too much spotlight, and too much guidance as well. Moving from the town of Los Caños de Meca to Madrid when she was 17, the former Lara Fernández Castrelo has always had a self-trust guiding her vision. When she began making music on a professional scale, the opinions of industry mentors started flying. “It’s easy to be influenced (by others),” she has said, “but you have to be careful. Little by little I’m defining myself.” She often cites her respect for Spanish singers Laylow, Feid, and Kali Uchis, but doesn’t want to work in the shadow of any one artist. Increased cred has helped with this goal. Last year she was invited to work with Alizzz and his Disqualified project; this past September she had everyone at the Caja Mijas buzzing about her performance. She can sound fragile, like when she’s cooing through “TANGER.” But that signature whisper also has an inquisitive vigor; it feels like she’s taking chances in the bouncy pop of “ZAHARA.” All her strengths were put forward when she hit our studio for the ATW performance of “2+1” and “CANIJO.” She’s truly a force.

Por eso nos fascina haber encontrado una cita de la misma Judeline hablando de no dejar de lado “el peso Andaluz” en su reciente cover de “La Tortura” de Shakira. La cantante española se jacta de orgullo alabando sus raíces. Mientras sus éxitos “2+1” y “CANIJO” amontonan views, la veinteañera gaditana da una lección de cómo conservar el respeto por las tradiciones mientras añade pinceladas pop, ritmos pegadizas y un sonido moderno. Pregúntenle a Rosalía. La superestrella ya compartió uno de los temas de Judeline, un sello de calidad al porvenir de la joven artista. Pero Judeline es acertadamente cautelosa en no ser demasiado viral, ni tampoco demasiado influenciable. Mudándose de su natal Los Caños de Meca a Madrid con tan solo 17 años, Lara Fernández Castrelo (este es su nombre original) siempre ha confiado en su visión y su instinto. Cuando empezó a hacer música profesionalmente, las opiniones entre los mentores de la industria fueron brillantes. “Es muy fácil dejarse influenciar (por otros)”, había dicho, “pero hay que estar pendiente de escucharse a uno mismo. Poco a poco me estoy definiendo”. Frecuentemente muestra su admiración por otros artistas como Laylow, Feid o Kali Uchis, pero sin querer trabajar a la sombra de ninguno. Su credibilidad sólo crece, conseguiendo este objetivo. El año pasado fue invitada a trabajar con Alizzz y su Disqualified project; el pasado septiembre exaltó la multitud en Cala Mijas. Puede sonar frágil, como en el susurro de “TANGER”. Pero ese bisbiseo tan propio tiene una energía cautivadora; que también se siente en su tema más popero “ZAHARA”. Todas sus cualidades salieron a relucir cuando pisó nuestro estudio para sus actuaciones ATW de “2+1” y “CANIJO”. Verdadero poderío.
