Fort St. Frederic was built in 1735 to control important waterways in the New York frontier, and for the French to lay claim over the region. This fort was an important outpost during 2 wars.

Many raids by the French and their Indian allies began at Fort St. Frederic. Attacks were made all over New England and northern New York - going as far as New Hampshire.

During the French and Indian war the region was many battles, but Fort St. Frederic was spared by the construction of the French Fort Carillon to the South. This newer fort became the focus of attack by the British, and the primary staging ground for attacks made by the French. Fort St. Frederic did remain as an important stopping point for supplies from Canada.

Ultimately as the French and Indian War continued the British were able to overpower the French. Fort St., Frederic was destroyed by the French as a superior British force marched north toward Lake Champlain.
