Boracay, one of the top Islands in the Philippines, is popular for its beaches and blessed with a long stretch of powdery white sand, crystal clear and azure waters, and a stunning sunset.

Boracay is the most iconic island in the Philipines and has won multiple awards in previous years. In 2019, Boracay was the top of the Asia Category in Conde Nast Traveler's The Best Islands in the World 2019 Readers Choice Awards. In 2020, Boracay retains its Top 10 island status alongside other Philippine Islands as it places 6th in the Top 10 list.

Boracay was previously part of the province of Capiz. It was under the jurisdiction of the town of Buruanga until the municipality of Malay was established on June 15, 1949. The municipality, as well as the island, became part of Aklan, which became an independent province on April 25, 1956.

Standing on Boracay’s White Beach in the early 1970s you’d have experienced the same fine white sand and views out to sea as you do today. What’s so different now is the vibrant world that inhabits the space behind the beach.

For centuries Boracay was virtually a secret. A hidden gem set into the Western Visayas only visited by the occasional adventurous explorer. As with the majority of The Philippines, Boracay was hard to get to. There were no regular planes, buses or even boats
