You might be wondering what the New Administrative Capital of Egypt even is. A few years ago, the Egyptian government decided that it was time to start working on a new capital city. As it turns out, they have done that, with this particular building being constructed just a few kilometers east of the long-standing capital of Cairo. When it is all said and done, several buildings will exist, including government offices, shops, and residences in this new capital city. At the moment, this is the building that everyone is talking about.

It's easy to understand why so many people are enamored with The Iconic Tower. For starters, it's a true feat of engineering. It's okay to look at, too. As previously mentioned, it stretches a full 77 floors into the sky. In case you were wondering, that equals 393.8 meters. This is a building that the Egyptian government and people take a great deal of pride in. It isn't just the height of the building that indicates their dedication to this particular building. Its design is meant to honor Egyptian history that goes back thousands of years.

When you look at the building, it's apparent immediately that it was designed to represent an obelisk. For anyone that needs to brush up on their history, an obelisk is a four-sided building that typically stretches tall into the sky and comes to a tapered end. Why is this so important for this particular building? The obelisk is a design that was first used by the Egyptians thousands of years ago. Many people associate this particular design structure with Greek architecture. The truth is that the Egyptians thought of the design first. The obelisk was widely used in ancient Egypt long before the Greeks even thought of constructing something similar.

This particular design isn't the only nod to ancient Egyptian culture. The building is also constructed of massive amounts of glass that cover the entire exterior. This was the brainchild of the chief architect firm Dar al-Handasah Shair & Partners. Ancient Egyptian mythology speaks of an Egyptian god called Amun. It is said that he possessed a crown adorned with two feathers. The glass design on the building is meant to both represent and honor that same feathered design. How did the builders of the skyscraper accomplish something like this? It all comes down to hundreds of thousands of pounds of concrete work, alternating with ornate glasswork that makes the building have something of a feathered appearance from top to bottom.

Speaking of doing all that concrete work, that part of the building was completed in July 2021. Keep in mind that this project got the green light back in 2018. After all, it takes a considerable amount of time to plan something like this, and it takes even longer to do all the concrete work for this particular design. The project is complicated because the building stretches more than 1,200 feet into the air. It may not be the easiest to get thousands of pounds of concrete that far into the sky, but the engineers managed to accomplish this without any significant problems. Since they knew it would be the most challenging part of the entire project, that's where they placed their focus first.

Despite the inherent difficulties of doing a job like this, engineers have moved relatively quickly with the project. Remember all of that concrete work that was completed just last July? Only a month later, in August of 2021, the top of the building was secured in place, officially making this the tallest building in all of Africa. Currently, the builders are working on the skyscraper's interior. They expect to finish the entire project within the first part of 2023.
