I am making a chapter again that is a tourist guide like in the days of Bitácora. I know you like me to tell you where you can stay, how much it costs and what you can visit, so I do it here. I'll tell you everything I like about Choroní, this town on the Venezuelan coast in the state of Aragua that had its glory days and now visits have dropped a bit due to fear of the road.

The first thing is that the road is good. It is true that it has curves and is narrow, but it has been that way all my life because it has been the same since the prisoners built it in the 1930s, during the dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez. There are two places where there are usually landslides, but only in the rainy season and they are controlled. In one of them there are machines all the time to remove stones if they fall. This road is beautiful. You have the luxury of crossing the Hanry Pittier National Park, the first national park to be created in the country, a grandiose forest, an authentic jungle with gigantic trees and all the greenery that exists on the planet. My suggestion is that you travel during the day so you can enjoy it and when you hear the bus horns, you stay away. That's all.

I'm going to tell you the posadas that I like and why. They are not the most famous, but they are the ones I have known all my life and I recommend them: “La Bokaina” is pure silence; Lots of garden, with access to the beach and Puerto Colombia. “Once upon a time in Choroní” there are just 4 rooms, the owner is like a fairy and she cooks gloriously. “Arakemo” is like staying in a botanical garden, with its collection of more than 150 palms in wonderful gardens and delicious food. “Posada Pittier” works like Airbnb; but they can make you food if you want. “Los Ranchos de Chano” has just 5 rooms, in a closed garden with a swimming pool and is run by the owner couple, who are charming. “Casa Bequevé” honors Henry Pittier and has the river in the garden for bathing at dawn. Cacaoni is modernity, a new beautiful decoration concept and the river also next to it. In Puerto Colombia I suggest the simplicity of “Hostal Colonial” with the best Choroní empanadas for breakfast. “Casa Ione” is for backpackers where you cook yourself. “Puerto Santo” is a colonial house with a good pool.

As for beaches, I suggest the ones that no one goes to: Aroa and Valle Seco. You can only get there by walking or by boat and you need good sea to enter. And Cepe; better known, but good to stay because there is the “Puerto Escondido” inn with just 8 rooms that I love. Its owners, the Fisher brothers, married with two sisters, serve it. The couples take turns taking care of the guests; 15 days one and 15 days the other. It really is one of my favorites.

So go back to Choroní and enjoy the drums because they're back on the boardwalk!
