There are many ways to make the transition from 1 1/2'' tub drain to a 2" shower drain. Plumbers ALWAYS want that transition to happen before the P-trap, but digging down below grade up to 2 feet down isn't practical so I do the transition as far down as I can as shown here....dozens & dozens of times without one problem.
