Last week I ordered one of the creepiest, most alien-looking sharks you can actually own in the aquarium hobby… and today it finally arrived: the wobbegong shark. Known as the ultimate ambush predator, wobbegongs can swallow prey their own size whole, have even been caught eating other sharks, and use their camouflaged skin and beard-like tassels as lures to trick fish right into striking range. It’s basically a shark crossed with an anglerfish, and getting one in the aquarium hobby is rarer than being struck by lightning. To house this rare exotic shark, we transformed a 125-gallon aquarium into the ultimate wobbegong shark tank setup, complete with a rocky reef ledge, a massive shark den, and a sandy hunting ground. Once he settled in, we introduced live crabs, shrimp, and damsels to put his insane hunting abilities to the test — and the results were unreal.
