Malayalam word deepam means light and sthambham meaning the piller, and hence piller of lamp or Deepasthambham. These traditional lamb are used in Kerala all the temples and they are lit up during the temple festival to create a divine atmophere in the temple. Deepasthambham mainly made in bronze, brass and stone materials.
