NO VISITORS TODAY
This song was birthed in the belly of a share house just down from the palace of tortured souls that was the Fremantle Prison. January 4th 1988 was the day the prisoners had enough and turned on the prison staff, taking a dozen hostages and burned the building to the ground. John Reeves, father of Ruben Reeves was holding residence just a few houses down from the prison at the time. When he and his housemates looked down the street to see what the commotion was. They were greeted with smokestacks, a burning prison, a hundred emergency vehicles, sirens & the standard sign they put out on days off that just says “NO VISITORS TODAY” which became the title of the song.

First performed before Rubens birth by John Reeves’ musical outfit 'The Hounds Of Dilemma', the song had a completely different structure and style, with only the lyrics remaining the same. Although they attempted to complete the song at Fremantle’s iconic Poons Head Studio with producer Rob Grant, the song was never completed and the project was eventually scrapped. Thus only leaving the story John Reeves had kept in writing form in his poetry notes for a little over 30 years. They sat in the dust until discovered by his son Ruben Reeves, who was now a well established traveling song-man himself. So he decided to finish what his father had started and carry the flame of intergenerational knowledge onward. He returned to Rob at Poons head studios and finished the song with his own solo live instrumentation in a single take. Thus presenting you with the song you see before you today. This song is number 7 in a selection of MonoBand recordings performed by Ruben Reeves as part of his new album titled RETURN TO SENDER which is the third studio release for his songwriting project. This track features a complete historically accurate narrative about the prison riot performed on the Farmer Foot Drum & Six string banjo with bass modification. This track is also recorded and produced almost entirely on equipment pre 1985 for that analog classic feel.
