Using a USB tester is very handy if you want to measure the current being consumed by a particular device. Normally, you could do the same thing cutting a cable and inserting a current measurement device in between but why do that when you can just plug it in and not have to ruin a cable? Measure which chargers charge faster, which cable actually works, and how much capacity is in a battery bank.

(Sorry I didn't cover this in the video but to measure the battery bank, you just completely drain it and then plug it in with this device until it is completely charged. Then the read out will show you the capacity assuming 5.1V or so. Most manufacterers will quote the mAH figure using the internal battery voltage of 3.5-4.2V. And doing so will show a larger mAh figure.)
