Here I show you the basics of how to read your diagnostic or check engine lights on most vehicles 1995 and older. On newer models with OBD2 (On-Board Diagnostic version 2), usually Sears or other mechanic shops will check your codes for free.

All you need is a metal paper clip to connect the two ports on the connector together (usually found hidden under the glove box).

Google your vehicle year, make and model + "OBD connector location" and you should be able to find an image or tutorial on finding your connector and which pins to connect.

To find the codes, just google your cars year, make and model + "error codes" or "check engine codes" and you should find a list.
