The native Monarch Butterfly is the most iconic butterfly and pollinator in all of North America. Sadly, it's native habitat is being threatened by human development and climate change. The Monarch lays its eggs exclusively on the native milkweed plant, which is a victim of meadows being paved over as cities expand. As well, the Monarch migrates south to overwinter, and as climate patterns change, it will adversely affect the Monarch's journey south.

I hope this video teaches you more about this beautiful animal and its dependence on future conservation. Next time, you may think twice about removing that milkweed plant in your garden or spraying pesticides. For more information, please visit https://wwf.ca/species/monarch-butter...

Note: Raising butterflies in captivity is a topic subject to debate. There are certainly pros and cons. My stance is that the conservation status of the Monarch Butterfly is marginally affected by a few raised in captivity, and at the very least, there is a minor positive effect is raised correctly. I do this solely as a tradition once a year. Please research on how to minimize harm to the butterfly in captivity if you choose to partake yourself.
