Unverified viral video of fugitive Amritpal’s has shocked the Punjab Police and residents of the state. On March 29, rumours were rife of Amritpal Singh surrendering before the police at Akal Takht. However, now, SGPC has slammed Khalistani preacher for his call for ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ on Baisakhi. In the recent video, Amritpal Singh urged the Sikh community to join the Sarbat Khalsa campaign. SGPC reacted and said only Akal Takht’s Jathedar have the right to call for ‘Sarbat Khalsa’. On March 29, security was beefed up outside the Golden Temple premises as there were rumours of Amritpal’s surrender. On these reports, SGPC had categorically said that Amritpal won’t be allowed to surrender at Akal Takht. As Amritpal Singh continues to dodge police and security forces, SGPC appealed Centre to “take Punjab seriously”.
