Knuckles jumps off the Tornado, leaving Sonic and Tails to face the Great Eggman Robot. As Sonic taunts Robotnik, the doctor decides to fire missiles at him. In response, Robotnik tries to crush him with his robot's hand. Ultimately, Knuckles hits the hand with his best attack, but it does no harm. The Tornado subsequently crashes into the ground and is destroyed, but Tails gets out of it in the last moment.

Sonic, Knuckles and Tails are trapped inside the Great Eggman Robot as Robotnik sends his infantry of Badniks after them. Sonic realizes that if he can rile Robotnik up and get his attention, he will leave the door open for a flanking maneuver from Tails and Knuckles. As Robotnik opens fire with lasers at them, Sonic realizes he is Robotnik's weak spot.
