'The Kiss' is the last song on my album 'Be Your Own Man', which came out in the summer of 2020. Although it's the only track I didn't write myself (it's by the 1970's singer-singwriter Judee Sill), I feel a special connection with this song, and decided to record a live version as a little project during this long spell of not being able to do any concerts. It was a lovely (if chilly) experience to sing it out into the vast space of St Mary's Cathedral in Edinburgh, accompanied by Steve Butler on the Steinway. For me, 'The Kiss' helps express some of the deep sadness of the last few months, and also a sort of faith that beauty and transcendence will always shine through into our lives, somehow.
