On 8 August 2022, large scale floods hit the South Korean capital of Seoul and surrounding areas. It was preceded by the highest rainfall in 80 years. 2,800 buildings have been damaged and at least 9 people have been killed. 63 people in Seoul have been made homeless. 50 cities and towns were issued with landslide warnings. Power cuts have been widespread. President Yoon Suk-yeol has warned the public of more rainfall. The highest recorded rainfall was 17 inches (43cm) Seoul's Dongjak district.
