The Saab 99 was designed by Sixten Sason, famous Swedish industrial designer, and manufactured both in Sweden and Finland by Saab between 1968 and 1984.

Globally the sales amount of Saab 99 cars was over 588’000 units. Funny fact, the 99 was marketed as a large family car in Scandinavia, but Saab decided to position this car as a compact executive car in the rest of the world.

The Saab 99 was one of the first ‘family cars’ to be fitted with a turbo. Its successor was the Saab 900 but the production was continuous with the Saab 99 for a couple of months.

The performances were:
* 2 liter turbo engine
* 145 hp
* Acceleration 0–100 km/h 9.2 sec
* Top speed 196.7 km/h

Race success
Of course, if we talk about the Saab 99, we definitely have to talk about Stig Blomqvist and its two WRC victories at the Swedish Rally in 1977 (with the Saab 99 EMS) and in 1979 (with the Saab 99). Stig Blomqvist was one of the most famous and talented Rally drivers of the 70s and the 80s. Overall, he won no less than 11 Rallies and won the 1984 WRC title!
