For getting access to check out the indoor coil, and to remove the washable filters above the coil, you first need to get the cover open. This is the 'trick.' The two upsides for washing your filters are that your unit becomes more efficient, because the unit needs air flow for the warm air coming through the top to cool off in the summer inair conditioning mode, or the cool air coming through the top to get warmed up in the winter. If the filters are dirty, that flow is impeded. Also, the condensate (water) flow can be affected if the filters are dirty.
