How to introduce the new puppy to the older dog? Dogs are territorial animals and conflicts may happen. Our border collie puppy doesn't understand how our old dog rules her house and has a lots to learn. To ensure a pleasant introduction, it is recommended that the puppy and the older dog should meet a neutral place. The leash is your friend just in case some serious aggression behavior happens.

In the house, we will separate the puppy and the older dog. The puppy has the playpen and crate as her escape places where she feels cozy and safe (some crate training is required). This also avoids overstimulation. They shall not eat using the same food bowl.

Our ultimate goal is that both the puppy and the older dog will feel their life is better with the other dog around. If there is good interactions you like between them, reward, reward and reward.
