Although the US dollar has been the dominant global currency in virtually every dimension for the past few decades and has demonstrated strong resilience to financial shocks and mounting fiscal debt, analysts have been cautioning about its potential long-term decline. Despite its widespread acceptance and tradeability around the world, some experts are concerned that the dollar's pre-eminent status may be threatened. While it has allowed us to borrow easily and at low-interest rates, enabling us to live beyond our means and promoting economic growth, there is a growing consensus that the view that nothing could ever displace the dollar from its position as the world's currency is overblown and will eventually be challenged.
