In traditional Gran Canaria basketry there are some containers, made with reed and cattail, that have become a hallmark of the island's crafts: balayos and taños. In 1998, Juan Ramírez, in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, was a veteran basket maker who had preserved this popular technique inherited from his ancestors.
