The banners for the 175th anniversary of the University of Wisconsin–Madison are a collaboration between doctoral candidate in anthropology and Ho-Chunk Nation member Molli Pauliot, Associate Professor of Design Studies Marianne Fairbanks, and Professor of Digital Arts Stephen Hilyard. Fairbanks and Pauliot came together around a shared interest in the language and structures of textiles, basketry, and natural fibers. Using these share interests, they have created a design for the banners that celebrates the technical skill of the handmade.
