He’s a master of whacky characters and being a total chameleon on screen - over the years Johnny Depp has made a brilliant career of embodying roles that seem out of this world and has given some legendary performances.
Physically, Depp has undergone plenty of painful transformations to do everything from existing in Wonderland as the Mad Hatter, to roughing it on the seas during all the time he’s spent filming Pirates of the Caribbean as Jack Sparrow. The actor looked unrecognizable when he lived in the land of endless candy - and his particular voice was one of the most jarring aspects of the transformation!
Johnny Depp’s time in the wizarding world saw the actor committing very intensely to it - he fully cut and dyed his hair just for the part - but immediately after he finished filming, the actor had his hair color updated again before even leaving the set.
While Johnny Depp is known mainly as an actor - he has had his turn in singing roles - most notably, he took on the incredibly vocally-challenging role of Sweeney Todd in the musical of the same name. His physical transformation required hours in the makeup chair, but his vocal transformation took hours working with a singing teacher in a studio before ever arriving to set!
On his way to becoming a globally-recognized star, Depp established iconic roles through wickedly painful transformations - like the terrifying Edward Scissorhands. Depp did visit the vampire genre later in their career in the film Dark Shadows, which saw plenty of vampire-like makeup and prosthetics involved.
No matter what was required, Depp never failed to rise to the challenge when it came to bringing these characters to life.
