Camping at Heart Bar Campground
Located along CA-38 in Angelus Oaks, CA about 30 south of Big Bear Lake, CA

The campground is located at an elevation of about 7000 ft, so it is much cooler than the valley floor. It was in the low 90⁰F before we headed up the mountain. Arriving at the campground, it was down to the mid 70s.

There are several other campgrounds in the area, in fact, I went to Barons Flat just a few miles down the road right about a year ago.

There are several hiking trails in the area. I did the Lower Meadow Loop that goes around the base of the campground. Then I did a more significant hike up Wildhorse Creek Trail to the Wildhorse Camp. Both of those are directly accessible from the campground. And I also drove a short distance to hike the Aspen Grove Trail, which requires a Wilderness Permit to do that hike.

Great campground for a weekend getaway. Probably not as suitable for family with kids since the trails are a little bit more difficult for the same ones.
