This shows our dependence and the importance of maritime freight, a sprawling network of maritime arteries which structures globalization. But this is only made possible because an armada of cargo ships sail in its service. These tens of thousands of boats as big as buildings crisscross the seas and oceans tirelessly in order to make our economic system work. A phenomenal activity! It is true that the system seems to have fallen on its head...
Here, American chicken is cut and vacuum-packed in China. There, Scottish whiskey bottled in Australia returns to square one, before being distributed around the world...
And if few people are really aware of it, it is because these highways traced in the immensity of the seas escape notice.
