Gordon Brown's last budget was delivered on 21 March 2007, at a time when it was almost universally acknowledged he would become Prime Minister shortly afterwards. The most prominent feature was reducing the main rate of income tax from 22% to 20%, although this move was later criticised as the removal of the 10% starting rate he had introduced in 1999 resulted in increased tax some low paid workers.
