Introducing Tamera | Vevo DSCVR

Like many artists of her generation, Tamera studied at the University of Beyoncé. When listening to her Afrobeats-tinted R&B and scrolling through her well-manicured Insta page, it’s not hard to imagine that the rising Brit singer actually took classes in The Art of Sasha Fierce. Each move has been a wise one. Raised just outside of London in Kent, young Tamera was molded into a confident vocalist by her church minister grandma. “She would push me to sing in front of other people,” the appreciative granddaughter recalls. After navigating the wild world of competitive singing TV shows and an early label deal, the then-teenager emerged with an eye on the indie route. R&B is the “main thread” of her sound, she says, but early singles such as “Wickedest” revealed an inclination to mix son clave riddims and the various guitar sounds of West African pop into her intoxicating sonic potions. With only one EP to her name - 2021’s ‘Aphrodite’ - Tamera cultivated a community of like-sounding UK artists such as Tay Iwar (“Good Love,” “Honest”) and DSCVR Artists To Watch 2023 alum Nonso Amadi (“Shivers”). Not to mention, her 100k+ followers love the way she mixes positive vibes with lavish aesthetics on her socials; it’s all about manifesting success after all. To that point, “Poison” might be Tamera’s strongest release to date, a zephyr of soft keys, undulating percussion, and romantic tension. She put a bow on 2023 with her ‘L.I.T.’ EP. “Bamba” is its closing track, and a marker of great things to come.
