Donkey Kong might be my favorite character to play in Melee. One technique that I have always implemented but not to its fullest is DK's advanced punch cancel turnaround bair.

As far as I can tell from my testing with 20XX the only way to land a back air from ledge or short hop out of shield is by pressing L,R, or Z on frame 8 of DK's wind up animation. Failure to do so results in the entirety of the wind up animation to play out.

I think that this tech can be super useful in neutral if you are approaching with shield and your opponent keeps dashing out of shield grab range, and coming from the ledge.
