Joni premiered two brand-new songs during a Fort Worth stop of the Rolling Thunder Revue tour, which she dubbed "the circus." She'd been on the road trip that inspired the Hejira album when the show passed through and she joined on. Always keeping the audience on their toes, she chose to play "Black Crow" and "Song for Sharon," which had been written on the road trip and would eventually be released six months later. "Black Crow" features a fantastic rock arrangement with the house band Guam ("we just worked that out before the show, that's great!") while Joni captivates the audience with the solo run-through of the epic "Song for Sharon," still in its early stages.
