When 30-year-old bartender Russell Donnelly discovered he was Covid positive, after getting over the initial shock, he decided to put his taste buds to the test.

Chomping on a raw onion and garlic paste, and slurping down some sour lemon juice in his home in Jersey City, the potent foods had no impact on tasteless Russell.

Russell said: "I have no idea how I caught it, I’m very safe.

"I was a little spooked when I realised I couldn’t taste because I knew what it was.
