"The Little Mermaid" tanks in both China and South Korea amid a racist backlash over the casting of Halle Bailey in the role of Ariel. The movie has grossed about $3.6 million its first 10 days of release in China and $4.4 million in South Korea. Sources close to the movie, as well as box office analysts, say Disney is surprised by the extent of the backlash and its impact.
