Angela Mills found it easy to bless her daughters on a daily basis, but doing the same for her husband was a struggle. So she intentionally set out to bless her husband in a variety of ways — by encouraging him, serving him, reminiscing with him about their dating days, cultivating contentment about her marriage, etc. Angela knows this message may seem “unfair” to wives who feel like their husbands should be blessing them, or may provoke more independent-minded women who don’t want be subservient to men, but she responds with what the Bible says about self-sacrifice and serving one another — just like Jesus modeled for us. Angela also described the tumultuous early years of her marriage where she was tempted to leave her husband, but she didn’t want to perpetuate a legacy of divorce in her family, and she felt like God was holding her to the commitments she made in her wedding vows. So she stayed and worked on her marriage relationship until it was healthy and thriving.
