We have been on our Tesla Journey for almost 4 years now, starting with our first, the Tesla Model Y. Although we've added and sold 2 Model 3's and are on our 2nd Tesla Model Y, we have really gotten to feel all charging scenarios that we may experience at home.

When we got our first Tesla Model Y, we exclusively charged using the included mobile connector and a 14-50 adapter. This was plenty of charging speed for our sole Tesla and we did this for a year and a half. When we added our second Tesla, we decided to go ahead and get something a little more robust for our double use requirement. We purchased and installed a Tesla Wall Connector and used this about 2 years ago.

Since then, we have explored many EV's and other than Teslas, they all use a J-1772 connector for Level 2 charging. Because of this, you need an adapter for the Wall Connector when using it for charging. Non-Tesla's dont come with adapters for the NACS connector, so you must always have an adapter if you want to use a Wall Connector.

That all was until just recently. Tesla just released their new solution for multi EV homes, or for EV drivers that want the reliability of Tesla Charging. The Universal Wall Connector comes in a bit more than the standard Wall Connector, but what it does is pretty smart. The Universal Connector allows you to charge either a Tesla or any other EV without the need for additional adapters. Utilizing the same setup as the recently released Superchargers with CCS connectors, this Universal Wall Connector has a "Magic Dock" in it allowing you to select which type of car you are charging as you grab the handle.

With the press of a button, your Universal Wall Connector will release with a J-1772 adapter already set. This allows you to charge a non-Tesla Level 2 at home. If you want to charge your Tesla, just pull the handle without pressing the button and you get the NACS connector.

So whether you are only driving a Tesla, Drive a Tesla and another brand EV, or don't have a Tesla, this is a great way to accommodate all EV's in your garage without having to remember adapters and plug them in every time.
