The Nürburgring with its notorious Nordschleife ("North Loop") is one of the oldest and most challenging motor sport racetracks in the world. The laying of its foundation stone in 1925 marked the beginning of an upswing for one of the poorest regions in Germany. Today, visitors flock here every year to experience music and sports events. Amateurs and professionals from various racing classes compete side by side in some events. Over 200,000 fans make the pilgrimage to the 24-hour races every year. Most camp out around the Nordschleife turning the Eifel into one huge party area. Who dares wins, but if you push things too far, the consequences can be serious, as we will see.
