In the midst of the Syrian chaos, four million Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs and other peoples live there in harmony.

They signed an astonishing “social contract”: equality and joint management in an ultra-macho, multi-ethnic and secular Middle East, in a region of the world shaken by religious and nationalist intolerance.

Horizontal democracy, where dictatorships and other theocracies prevailed. Why is this social project, which is ecological, never invited to the negotiating tables on the future of Syria?

And why the coalition, which supported the Kurds in the fight against Daesh, is careful not to recognize their de facto autonomy in this region which covers a third of Syrian territory.
