Non sleep deep rest (#NSDR) references any state of mind that is calm, focused, semi-sleepy state. Think of it as that space when you’re not really awake but you’re DEFINITELY not asleep. Non-sleep deep rest is a way for your body to relax and lower your anxiety, which over time should allow the natural sleep process to take over.

When you are in non-deep sleep rest, there is a reduction in your sympathetic nervous system — the fight or flight aspect -- and an increase in your parasympathetic nervous system, the rest and digest side. Research has been shown it can relieve stress, and improve your memory, cognition, and neuroplasticity.

So why is it so popular? And how can we use #nsdr to help us sleep? Sleep expert Dr. Michael Breus explains the science behind non-sleep deep rest and why it might be worth trying TONIGHT to get better sleep.
