I wrote ‘Put the lights up’ a few years ago actually. It’s about loneliness and the poignant emotions associated with being alone during the holiday season. I wanted the lyrics to be full of heart, warmth and sincerity, exploring themes of isolation, yearning for connection, and the contrast between the festive atmosphere and personal feelings of solitude. It’s about hope and not giving up. Although the music features melancholic melodies, it has an underlying stream of ‘you’re going to be ok’. I wanted a slower tempo to enhance the reflective mood I wanted to capture the not so glamorous hustle and bustle side of Christmas/ winter time, what this time should be about: kindness and reaching out. The song is about community and connection.✨️💕✨️💕✨️💕✨️
