We tell you the difference between torque hinges (free stop hinges) and damper hinges (soft-close hinges)!

[Detailed Definition]

The word "torque" is used in both free-stop and damper hinges, so why are they not both "torque hinges?" Some people think that they should be referred to in the same way and actually call both "torque hinges".

However, to avoid misunderstandings, our company defines them separately:

1. A "torque" hinge (free stop) uses a mechanism that holds in place at an arbitrary position by friction.
2. "Damper" hinges are made to slow down the opening or closing of a door (to reduce contact impact).
