Real estate commission in NYC. Is it always 6% of the sale price paid by the seller? Or does it vary by neighborhood? Overview by Chris at Hauseit® (https://www.hauseit.com).

You've all heard about real estate brokers earning 6% on home sales. But 6% on an average $2 million NYC home is $120,000. That sounds like a whole lot of money.

In REBNY territory (i.e. Manhattan & parts of the city closer to Manhattan), the commission is indeed typically 5-6% unless you're utilizing a Hauseit Agent Assisted FSBO listing to save on broker commission.

However, norms may vary in further, outlying neighborhoods such as Flushing or Sheepshead Bay. In these areas, co-brokes and commissions may be quite a bit lower.

The best way to find out what the norm is in your neighborhood is to have your agent check the MLS and see what competing listings are offering in commission to buyer's agents.

We explore this mystery and explain further in the following video.
