If you are anything like me, you have boxes and boxes stacked up in the back of your rig, doing the best you can to separate recovery gear and the tools needed to repair your Jeep on the trail. These can get big and bulky and space in a overlanders rig is valuable. So I thought these cargo bags were the answer to a huge need I had.... How do I pack out and carry all the gear I need while not overrunning my Jeep space.

These roll cage cargo bags store nicely in a "dead space" of the Jeep and are big enough to hold everything needed... but after using them for a bit, are they going to work well enough to become a permeant addition to the Road Rash Jeep?

The quick answer is NO.... but let me explain!

As a storage bag, these do the job they are intending to do. They sufficiently stored all my recovery gear and tools in these bags, clearing up all of the back space of the Jeep. That was their purpose and that is what they achieved.

However, because they only buckle along the top on the roll cage, these cargo bags sway viciously back and forth while off roading, slamming against the Jeep. Now I should note, they are hitting the "tub" of the Jeep, not the fiberglass hardtop so likely there is no damage inflicting to the Jeep.... It's just LOUD AS ALL GETOUT! Not really a huge reason to discard these though.

The main reason these will not work as a permanent addition to the Jeep is because of my Spring Jeep conversion. If you have followed the Road Rash channel for any amount of time, you know around March, my Jeep goes into a full Spring / Summer / Fall conversion. I remove the hardtop using a DIY Electric hoist in my garage and store it for the entire year. If you haven't seen the video on this hoist, it's a must watch - (WATCH IT HERE    • GET NAKED Episode 1 - Custom Electric...   )!

During this conversion, I run a Bikini top, windjammer (back window) and a deck cover over the back of the Jeep. That's how I like it. I only put the hardtop back on for long overlanding trips. With this summertime set up, these cargo bags hang a lot lower into the deck of the Jeep, hindering my ability to put my deck cover on, therefore the storage pouches will need to be removed from the roll cage and placed inside of the deck cover.

Now, these cargo pouches are still very very useful as they keep everything compartmentalized and will be very useful on my overlanding trips with the hardtop. I will continue to put them back on the roll cage when I put my hardtop on for my long overlanding trips. That's how I plan to use these.
