Meaning the subjects and opinions found on his new ‘These Things Happen Too’ aren’t the same as those on his 2014 debut, ‘These Things Happen.’ But it’s a wise man who can chart his growth, and as the Bay Area hero’s new tracks take time to examine the strengths and weaknesses of his 32-year-old self, he connects a lot of dots and share a lot of insights. That “Breakdown” collab with Demi Lovato is a perfect symbol of his new candor: he’s going there this time, sharing his doubts, confessing regrets, standing up to the stuff that drives him crazy.
