Sleeker Than Ever: The 2024 Audi Q3 Sportback Brings Coupe Styling To The Compact SUV Segment

The recently revealed 2024 Audi Q3 Sportback takes the regular Q3 compact SUV and gives it a fastback-like roofline for a more stylish, coupe-inspired look. Audi is banking on buyers wanting that sleeker silhouette even in a more affordable luxury SUV. So how does this baby crossover coupe stack up?

Visually, the differences between the Q3 Sportback and regular Q3 are immediately apparent thanks to the sloping rear glass and more raked C-pillars. It lends the Sportback model a more graceful presence, though rear headroom does take a slight hit. Audi also equips the Sportback with a unique rear bumper and restyled LED taillights for extra distinction.

Dimensionally the two Q3 variants are identical, with the Sportback measuring 176.6 inches long and 64.1 inches tall. The wheelbases are the same at 105.5 inches, promising similar passenger space up front. Cargo capacity stands at a useful 23 cubic feet behind the rear seats, expandable to 48 cubes with the 40/20/40-split bench folded.

Motivation for the latest Q3 Sportback comes from VW Group's EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Output is rated at 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, increases of 44 horses and 37 lb-ft versus the outgoing model. An eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive are standard. Audi estimates a 6.0-second sprint to 60 mph.

On the road, the 2024 Q3 Sportback impresses with its refined demeanor and willingness to change direction. The steering loads up naturally off-center while the suspension provides a compliant ride that soaks up imperfections. Push the pace and you'll find surprisingly little body roll thanks to the rigidity imparted by the Sportback's sleeker roofline. The turbo four pulls strongly to its 6,250 rpm redline, issuing a pleasing growl when prodded.

Fuel efficiency stands at an EPA-rated 21 mpg city, 28 highway, and 24 combined. That's right in line with rivals like the BMW X2 and Volvo XC40. We saw an impressive 26 mpg over 250 miles of mixed driving.

Audi packs the Q3 Sportback with all the luxury and tech features expected in this segment. A fully digital Virtual Cockpit gauge cluster is standard, as is a 10.25-inch touchscreen running the latest MMI infotainment software. Natural voice controls, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, and an optional Bang & Olufsen premium audio system ensure occupants stay informed and entertained.

On the safety front, every Q3 Sportback includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist provides semi-autonomous driving capability in certain situations.

Pricing for the 2024 Audi Q3 Sportback starts at $43,900, a $5,300 premium over the regular Q3. Standard features include leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Major option packages consist of a $2,000 S Line package (20-inch wheels, aluminum interior inlays, sport front seats), $2,750 Technology package (360-degree camera, parking assist), and $3,400 Premium package (heated steering wheel, massaging front seats).
